Comments Shares Activision has successfully filed a patent designed for use in multiplayer matchmaking systems. In short, it’s an idea to engender envy at teammates’ or opponents’ gear through the matchmaking algorithm itself. Here’s the abstract from the patent, granted today after its filing two years ago: The system may include a microtransaction arrange matches to influence game-related purchases. A junior player may wish to emulate the marquee player by obtaining weapons or other items used by the marquee player. It has not been implemented in-game. It’s also not a reactionary move on Activison’s part, as the patent took two years to go through. Still, with resentment for loot boxes and microtransactions at an all-time high, the timing is unfortunate for the publisher. Here’s the bit on microtransaction matchmaking detailed later on: Similarly, the microtransaction engine may identify items to be promoted, identify marquee players that use those items, and match the marquee players with other players who do not use those items.

The Taken King Review Share. By Jose Otero It was 4 a. The Taken King ‘s fantastic endgame raid hours ago, the six-player assault kept us awake to try and stomp our way to the final boss. But a challenging co-op gauntlet isn’t the only thing fueling our lust for better loot drops and great shooting — there are plenty of changes, big and small, that make Destiny a much better game. The short-but-sweet campaign, menacing Taken enemies, clever bosses, and rewarding loot system, combined with another inventive raid, have made these late-night play sessions a regular thing.
This expansion is the shot in the arm that Destiny needed. Exit Theatre Mode The campaign is a fun highlight, with a succinct six-hour story that kept me intrigued and invested with clever level designs, gorgeous cinematic cutscenes, and funny dialogue. Character Cayde-6 steals the show with witty one-liners, delivered with enthusiasm by actor Nathan Fillion. Major character that were underdeveloped in prior expansions are featured a more prominently.
The Taken King ditches the barely-there plot of previous installments in a favor a story with a clear villain and a role for us in the conflict. A revamped UI makes it easy to track tasks, and completing the many quests lines never felt like busywork because of the intelligently designed Taken enemies and boss monsters. Destiny is a game where shooting is a constant action, but each Taken brings a distinct attack style that contributes to the already excellent combat sandbox.

Sep 10, 9 I have been playing Destiny for the last 2 days and have to say that I am really enjoying the experience. It is unfortunate to see so manyI have been playing Destiny for the last 2 days and have to say that I am really enjoying the experience. It is unfortunate to see so many trolls looking to do nothing but bash this game. I wonder what it takes to please some of these people. The presentation is top notch and the game transitions seamlessly from menu to menu and location to location.
The game draws inspiration from Halo, Borderlands, Call of Duty, and Mass Effect and manages to harmoniously bring all the features together to make a very solid and balanced game. For me, the art direction looks like a cross between Halo and Mass Effect. There are open environments a la Borderlands to explore and loot with your friends. The music is well done and the ambient sounds really help to differentiate each location and add to the experience.
The guns sound great up close and even from across the map, hearing the echo of battle is exciting. The RPG elements are nicely implemented but not overly complex. The skill trees are more like perk trees effecting grenade types, explosion ratings, and etc. The most addicted part of the game for me is the player cosmetic customization. You are rewarded with new outfit parts after each mission, after multiplayer games, in loot boxes, and they are also dropped by downed enemies.

Gameplay[ edit ] Destiny gameplay Destiny’s style has been described as a first-person shooter that incorporates role-playing and MMO elements, but Bungie has avoided describing Destiny as a traditional MMO game. For instance, rather than players being able to communicate with all other players in the game or on a particular server — as is the case in many conventional MMO games — Destiny includes on-the-fly matchmaking that allows players to communicate only with other players with whom they are “matched” by the game.
To communicate with other players in the game world, players must use their respective console’s messaging system. A social space on Mercury was added with the House of Wolves expansion, but requires players to go undefeated in the Trials of Osiris Crucible mode in order to access it. Character progression and classes[ edit ] Players are able to improve their characters, referred to as Guardians, by gaining experience points EXP — when a set number of experience points are accumulated, the player’s character will “level up” and gain improved statistics which further enhance performance in battle.
Quests , including the “main scenario” quest line, are specific tasks given to the player by non-player characters which reward items and EXP. Completing main scenario quests progresses the overarching plot of the game. Destiny features three character classes. Each class has their own specific upgrades, perks, special abilities, and two sub-classes that allow the player to finely tune their individual characters to provide a different play style. After choosing a class, players select one of three species for their character: Human, Awoken bluish-gray-skinned descendants of Humans , or Exo humanoid machines.
They can then customize their character, such as changing its gender or skin color.
Bungie addresses Destiny 2 dedicated servers concern “Every activity in Destiny 2 is hosted by one of our servers. It was news which dismayed some fans, tired of the problems this brings to Destiny 1. This week, Bungie found time to explain the situation better, saying Destiny 2 actually improves the situation from Destiny 1 by using dedicated servers for some things – and peer-to-peer still in others. That means you will never again suffer a host migration during your Raid attempt or Trials match.
Nov 03, · destiny has lots of problems, but lack of matchmaking for raids has never been one of them. if you think think finding a group is too much of a hassle, then you’re not committed enough to learn the raid’s mechanics.
By Anthony Taormina 1 year ago report this ad Although players have been requesting it since the early days of Destiny 1, Bungie confirms that Destiny 2 will not support matchmaking in the traditional sense. There will be a new feature called Guided Games that is meant to bring players together for challenging activities, but randomly pairing players is something that Bungie feels does not work for its game.
Noseworthy also shared some info about how Guided Games will support a variety of players with a variety of interests. Teaming random players together very rarely ends well. The type of community we want to have, the friendly, welcoming space we want Destiny to be. Please be fair to other players. When you are playing the raid — people have roles, there is coordination.
